aahahahaha, awesome! well, i blew the motor up. lost all compression in the front rotor but i'm pretty sure i know why. i had never installed the front mount oil cooler and thats also the engine i did all the tuning on. i must have detonated it a hundred times and it was never really good on compression. BUT, i got a free 12a from a friends parts car that has amaaaazing compression! swapped it in, put the fmoc on, changed a few little things here and there and it's running better than ever! i literally can not get any traction in 1st, 2nd, or part of 3rd. the car never responded like that before. i made a video i should be putting up tonite or tomorrow showing this. hahahaha

what's great is now i'm having to use my biggest jetting for 10psi, which is what i used for 17psi on the old motor. and it still needs a tad more up top! it's making that much more power. it feels insane.

but the best part, is i can just walk out there in the morning, not pump the gas, just turn the key and it cranks right up. no choke on the nikki or anything. the carb is jetted a little rich so that helps

edit: yea i get full boost by 3000rpms now too which is a big contributor to my traction loss. hell i can even cruise in 2nd at 2500 rpms... stomp it, NO BOG, and it just lights the tires up. you'll see

My update!!!

Well....My car is still sitting there with its engine bay gutted.....parked next to a nice 87 TII.

However the 87 TII was a hellofa deal (speakin Texan for yall) and it runs strong. So I bought it for my sister because I have always told her that I would buy her a car. One thing I am glad about using the TII is that they do not have alot of power when stock. I was kinda surprised, but its enough for my sister.

Anyway...yea.....I am no where on my swap. I have everything planned out and exactly priced, researched an *** load, and now will be coming a BIG step closer because I am getting promotion and a new position at my work !!!

Gawd...I do day dream though of my low 400 on low psi to pushing 500 at a higher psi monster that I will someday have...

 

yep, at 10psi as of now. the turbo is in great condition and god it spools up quick. i find myself practically starting in second gear now when leaving stoplights. ahhahaha

oh and i should definately have the video up tonite. my friend is bringing the camera over so i'll be doing the editing in a little bit. i'm so stoked! and i truly owe my cars success to this forum right here!

i dunno, honestly the stock exhaust ports on the 12a are so small i wouldn't think the turbo would spool up so fast. sooo... yea i think the header helps out quite a bit.

update: put in a new boost gauge, other one was messed up. i have now found out i'm only running 8psi. aahahahhaha wtf! I CANT WAIT TOTURN IT UP!

how do you tune the carb? Do you have a wideband bung in your downpipe and a wideband with a ton of jets?

 

whitey85: yes, i use a wideband and peak hold gauges. it's been quite a process, trust me. but basically i have a lot of spare nikki jets and i drill them out myself. i also drill my own airbleeds and everything else. i boost prepped both carb and manifold myself.....

oh and i did make that video today, but damnit..... the camera angle was too high soo i'm gonna make another one tomorrow.. and i almost got pulled over twice doing that vid. whats great tho, is i see now that the car breaks the tires loose at 6psi in 1st and 2nd... then 3rd gear is only making 8psi i have alot left to go!
