FB Heater core replacement?

Hi all,

I'm wondering what options were for replacement heater cores. Can you use one from an FC in an FB? Seems as though there are no aftermarket heater cores available for our cars, everything on rockauto is sold out. Brassworks does sell one, but it's really pricey and I've heard mixed reviews on their other heater cores. Previous owner of my car blocked off the lines and told me the heater core didn't work.

1st gen or nothing.

In my experience the heater cores themselves are OK but the shutoff valve leaks.

I also have never had an issue with a heater core failing in any of my RX-7's. If yours is leaking you have a couple of options. You can post a want to buy ad here on the forum in the marketplace section or you can remove your current heater core and take to to a radiator shop and see if they can repair it and pressure test it. Removing the heater core does require removal of the dash. The dash will come out in about an hour once you know exactly what to do. I can post some removal tips if you would like.

I see. According to this post, you can remove it without pulling the dash. I'll at least give it a shot before I open up the dash.

Or maybe I should yolo and reconnect the heater core lines together? Not sure since the owner was probably right about the heater core failing. Seems as he might have been trying to pull the heater core out - some of the front carpet was detached when I got the car.

I apologize in advance for highjacking this thread but I have a heater core if you would like to buy a used one. It came out of a 1984 GSL-SE with 93,000 miles on it.

Let me know your thoughts.

This is not the appropriate place to list parts for sale. As rxtasy3 stated, you must use the marketplace section to sell parts. You can however message the original poster and see if they are looking for a heater core and you guys can discuss price over pm or however you chose from there. Since you are new, I will let this slide and chalk it up to you not reading the forum rules and not knowing that you couldn't list parts for sale in this section.

OP - be watchful for red flags and scams if this new user PMs you. This is how scams are perpetrated; "I have exactly what you need. Send $$$..."

I can’t PM you because I guess I do not have the clearance yet? Not sure how to resolve that?

To the moderators: I apologize for not posting in the correct location. Noted.

And finally, longduck: While I appreciate your vigilance and warning others about possible scams, I am NOT a scammer. I have had about 8 RX-7’s and now I have a bunch of parts I need to get rid of, either sell or throw in the trash.

Thank you all for your understanding.

Welcome to the forum.

While you did post a picture, we have no idea if you took that yourself or if you got it from the internet. We're just looking out for everyone to ensure a smooth transaction.

Since you have a bunch of parts that you can sell, I'd recommend you take pictures of each (or the lot) and post a "for sale" ad in the marketplace. That's where everyone goes to look for parts so you'll have better luck selling it there. Who knows, someone might want to get the whole lot from you.

I've driven a car without a functioning heater core, and it's generally a PITA. You don't realize how useful your windshield defroster/defogger is until you don't have one -- even in warmer climates.

I haven't had a working heater inside in decades and don't miss it. If I need to defrost on the occasional time I drive in the rain, turning the A/C on cold and defrost vents clears the windshield faster than heat ever would.

Admittedly, I live in the middle of the Sonoran desert - but it's raining TODAY! Usually, if I want heat, I roll a window down,...

Pretty sure he was a scammer lol, he wanted 200 for the heater core which is just insane. You can get a new one from the Brassworks for about 320, I'd rather go down that route.

Yup - Not sure when I'll get back to it but I think I'll need to take out the dash sometime during the summer. I live in a colder area which makes it hard to deal with the windows fogging unless you have a heater core.

I really don’t appreciate you and everyone else saying and thinking that I am some kind of scammer. I understand everyone’s reservations these days but I will repeat, I am not a scammer.
I have no idea what the thing is worth so I just threw out a number. Tell me what it’s worth to you, make me an offer. But please do not portray me as a scammer.

I am just not ok with you guys thinking I am a scammer and had to respond. I have a decent amount of good interior parts from an 84 RX7 that I would like to sell to those in need. As they get approved and posted, I will continue to post more in the marketplace section.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.
