fast 1st gen. rx7's in the classifieds

im noticing quite a few rx7's (all generations) in the classifieds with fast recently rebuilt turbo and/or ported engines...usually the cars seem to have been a little neglected except for the engine, maybe suspension...my question is are alot of these cars ex racers that have been beaten to death?...im looking for a gsl-se with a newer motor, the more work done to it the better, and hopefully suspension upgrades as well...im really picky as to how the car will look so i plan on doing my own body-paint and interior. all these low prices are worrying me. here in ontario, canada, gsl-se's are around here and there, but usually run for $2500 US funds in the auto trader. any feedback would be appreciated. thanks. by the way my name is NIck, i've had 3 rx's in the past, two 1st gen's, and a turbo 11..im currently a honda crx owner, and dream about rotaries. lol.....although my car is mint i am selling it for my dream 1st gen.

i would have to guess no, when i get my first gen and it blows up, i plan on porting it just b/c i see no point in not since its so easy. I think alot of people figure what the hell if have to rebuild it why not make it faster?? But the only way to tell is see how long the car has been registered for and stuff like that. If it was an ex racer you'll definately know it.
