Angry Failed emmissions . . . twice

Good old Maryland. Well, the first time through, i did not have an air tube hooked up to the cat so I expected to fail. They put me on the rollers (the guy thought it was front wheel drive at first ) with no idle test, but the second time it was just an idle test. The weird thing is, the two tests where in different units (GPM, PPM) so i don't really know how to compare them. How do I fix my car?

First test

HC CO NOx CO2

Standard 1.800 GPM 30.0 GPM 2.80 GPM N/A

Reading 4.23 62.54 0.2165 349.8

Second Test

HC CO NOx CO2

Standard 220 PPM 1.20 Pct N/A Not on Report

Reading 802 6.78 N/A

well, if you weren't running an air tube on your cat, your cat is probably dead by now... so you might need a new cat... also, what car is it se? or carb 12a? need more info...

Oh, sorry, 1984 GSL 12A carb bone stock. The air tube was not hooked up for almost 1000 miles so I guess the cat could've gone bad.

Only 1000 miles with the tube unhooked likely did not hurt the cat. Hook it up, and take the car for good run. Really heat the cat up, and keep it warm for a while. Then go get it tested while it's still warm.

if you are going to do that, make sure you have a fresh oil change, new spark plugs and make sure the car is ood and hot right before the test...

Alright, I'll change the oil and plugs, I guess they could use it anyway. it was definatly warmed up before the test. I drove mabye 20 minutes at highway speeds, and gave it a nice run through the gears a few times at some stop signs (hehe) and idled in line for another 20 minutes.

I love Cali. We started that **** and now its going nationwide. The only advise I can give you guys is to start making friends. Sooner or later, that friend will know someone who has a friend who can hook you up to another friend who can do it for ya.
