Failed emission test
ok... i got my 85 12A a couple of months ago and ever since then it has given me nothen but problems out of it. not to long ago i went down to get emmissions on it and it got an 840 on hydrocarbon, but passed on co2! i can smell how ritch its running and still cant figure out whats wrong. ive changed the plugs, wires, fuel filter, checked the timing, and adjusted how much fuel it gets at idle from a screw on the side of the carb. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

take a quick search through, there are alot of "help i cant pass smog" threads.
and quite a few ive read recently
As well if you name your thread something appropriate like smog test fail, there will be related threads listed at the bottom.

If your CO numbers are good, then the mixture is probably alright.Excess hydrocarbons and a fuel smell out the exhaust indicates a failed cat or air injection system(or both).
Even when the fuel mixture and ignition systems are in top condition, rotaries waste a lot of gas out the exhaust,so the cats and air injection system must be in working order to eat all that waste up.If your HC numbers get better at higher engine speeds, its a sign that the cat works, but isnt getting hot enough at lower speeds to burn off the pollution. In that case, its a good sign the air pump or air control valve is bad.
