Fabbing a TII skin to my FB

Picked up a TII hood for $140. I stripped the skin from the skeleton and now fabbing the hood skin to my FB. I'm not going to use the FB skeleton, but going to make my own and use hood pins to hold it down. It's going to take some time, but here's my start.

are you going to make the hood fit the car or the car fit the hood?

The hood fill fit the car. Here's a pic on my further progress. My only hang up now is the radiator. the cap sits to high and holds the skin higher than the fender. Won't be a problem as I am going to install a 2nd Gen radiator.

Well, things were going good then I hit a few snags. i had fixed my clearance issues, but i didnt decide on how i wanted to design the aluminum support skeleton. So i just used my stock hood, cut the appropriate area out, gave weakened areas a little support, and installed scoop. I used aluminum rivets to secure it to the hood. a little primer to get it to be somewhat the same color. I dont know if i want to bondo it in or leave it with a race look. What do ya think?

haha what the hell?

i was impressed on modifying the hood but then i saw that and just had to shake my head.. easy way out. it will look good this way too though..

here is what i would do.

draw an outline of the scoop section onto the fb hood. cut the hole out. weld the scoop section in and then grind fill primer and sand. some people have problems with welding al but i think it will look a lot better than rivits.

actually.. goddamnit. i forget that fb hoods arent al, so no welding. damn. i would think if you smoothed it out with the rivits, eventually they will crack out. i would have to think about how to do it for a few days.. ill let you know if i come up with ideas.... like you would care anyway.

I wanted to weld it to the hood but we know its not compatible. Ive had a few more ideas i can still do with it. my cars down for a month at the moment. I have my turbo project going on right now and it has priority. As i was cutting into my stock hood i noticed that there was a lot of body filer used on it. i have another t2 hood. i am still going to make that one so it is only a skin and minimal skeleton as i started out. I'm just going to design the skeleton fist as i know how to do the skin. As for this one I may fiberglass it in. this one is a just to give me a feel for how it would look. I personally an not going for show car look (hence the flat black primer). Give me any ideas you have. Its the only way cars ever get customized...ideas. If we didn't use ideas we'd all have Honda Civics with off-the-shelf parts!!
