If you had shavings inside the tranny it is not the clutch. The only way to get clutch material into the tranny is if the front tranny seal was blown so bad you actually had a hole. Shavings inside the tranny are a bigger problem. If they are non magnetic, you've probably trashed your brass syncros. Check this guy out. http://iscracing.net/clutch.htm I don't know your location, but this guy is in florida and will ship. Great prices for tranny's and he will custom build. The last time I talked to him he offered to build me a second gen turbo tranny with a really tall 5th gear(no pull but good mileage and top end)and send me a clutch setup for around 700 plus shipping. Just don't install the clutch until you have a shop do a diagnostic. You can usually get those for free and it will save a lot of labor cause it really doesn't sound like your clutch.
well it shifts fine out of the car im getting a new clutch anyway, i live close to pinapple racing their prices look good for tranny rebuild and since tranny is out i might as well replace my smoky engine with a 13b street port
so i might as well get the clutch and throw it in and try it out, if it doesnt work i will tear it out again and send my engine and tranny to pinnapple

just for future reference for everyone, you shouldn't use water or solvent to clean brake parts. Water is absorbed into the brake fluid which lowers the boiling point. It's something like 5% water lowers to boiling point by 1/2... solvent breaks down the rubber in brake components to a point where they go really soft and deteriorate.
Simply use brake cleaner, fresh brake fluid, or alcohol to clean brake parts...
and if you're ever stranded with no brake fluid, you're better off using water or alcohol instead of engine oil.. any petroleum product will destroy internal rubber parts.

well if the cluch goes "out" you can put it in any gear and relese the cluch pedal and nothing will happen--no go no where. The slave and master cylinder will both do about the same thing, that is when the cluch is pushed it will not have any pressure to push the mechanical lever that accuates the clucth. so it could be that making it hard to shift into gear from a stop but it kinda sounds worse than that. Grinding would make sence but not clanking. sounds to me like maybe synchronizers?? May be wrong-- if it were me i'd try a cluch kit first-we all could use a new cluch. if not it then replace trany
