What exactly happened? Standards usually don't 'blow up'...

I've never blown a transmission. I doubt you toasted it unless you ran it out of oil.

That's not good. Correct me if i'm wrong, but worn throwout bearing would not lead to metal in the tranny itself..

Sounds like clutch. Did you install OEM clutch or aftermarket or rebuild? I just put in two new clutches, an OEM from Mazdatrix in the blue car that works like a dream, and a mystery clutch from local parts supplier (I specified OEM, but think I got cheated, and now the supplier has disappeared!), and it makes noises like bad throwout or bad pressure plate. OEM is always my first choice with clutches.

Your car won't go into 1st when the clutch is dragging. And will grind going into reverse. Not a tranny problem.

Usually, transmission problems give warnings of screaming bearings, or, if your clutch is for-sure good , difficulty getting into any gear anytime, even when stopped (worn input shaft brgs).

The guy who gave me the red83 had to put in 3 rebuilt clutches to get one that worked! False economy. The whole works from mazdatrix is only $200-$300.

i dunno what clutch it is cause i havent replaced it i got the car about 6 months ago
i have the transmision out for my first time ever it is easy on this car
what should i look for the clutch looks in place and pressure plate has all its teeth...
the throw out bearing apears to be fine it wiggles a little but the actual bearing part spins freely with no play

looks like i should take her to AMCO eh?

Are you sure it is not your master or slave cylinder?

When my slave cylinder went I simply lost all pedal pressure- dropped straight to the floorboard..I think his clutch pressure was there..

when my slave went "bad" it still worked to a point. Just enough to stop and have a had time changeing gears. It would not go in reverse unless you put it there first and then started the car.

That is my experence.

the only time I have ever had a trans fail it was because a gear was all the way gone or the input/ouput shaft was broken.

Don't just jump to conclusions, pull the thing out and see what the problem is first before you buy a new clutch. and for the love of god NEVER go to Aamco. They are the most worthless peices of **** mechanics ever to walk the earth.

Replace the clutch, but no rebuilt parts.

I've had two transmissions go out on me, both on cars I bought new (none were 7s). In each case I could put the car in gear, it simply wouldn't go forward. But it would go in reverse (I backed one car about 6 blocks to my home.)

Check the Clutch master cyl. Mine went out. If I went into 1st or reverse the motor would die. Get an overhaul kit for about $17.00. Wash out the cyl with hot water or brake cleaner or brake fluid. Also bleed it before you install it.
(2) 12mm nuts and (1) 10mm for the line.

Hmmm, mine makes a similar noise to a lesser degree, but the time when it's been doing it makes me think it's the throw-out bearing? (in mine at least- it's when I depress the clutch)
