Hey guys,

I just started working on my new 79 GS that I got back in October,and I have a few questions.I just removed the entire exhaust system so that I can put my Racing beat dual exhaust from my 83 on it,and noticed some extra exhaust ports under the main ports on the block of the motor.The holes look like they are linked to a small port from the main port in the block.I don't think my 83 has these.What do I need to do to these to run my header?Will these get covered over by the flange of the header(I have not removed the header from my 83 to check)?Do I need to weld these holes up to prevent an exhaust leak?I vaugly remember someone posting that it needs to be JB welded up to work right.Also the where 2 disk looking things in the thermal reactor(one had a bend in it inside the rear port).What do these do?I don't really care because I am not using the thermal reactor anyway,but I would like to know what they are for.

On a side note the exhaust came off with no problems aside from a couple of the rubber hangers ripped from old age.The exhaust is in great shape,and complete aside from the small pipe that is mounted on the muffler is rotted away where it went over the axle.Thanks in advance.

the exhaust should work fine. just make sure you keep the 79-80 intake manifold on. as for those things in the thermal reactor. if i remember right they just direct the exhaust in the right direction for the thermal reactor.
