Expert help on how to start an 84 GSL-SE
I have a couple of questions about an 84 GSL-SE I bought. The previous owner told me that the car was running but has been parked for over 5 years. He claimed that not to long ago he took the gas tank to get rid off the old gas, but them he lost interest on the car. Now, my first question is how hard is to install the gas tank? Do I need any special tools? Should I install a new gas pump and filter? The second question is, since the car has been parked for so long, how or what can I do to try to start the engine w/out damaging it. Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Hey, It just has some bolts to hold it in, bolt them backin with a socket wrench or whatever fits. You should change the fuel filter, get new plugs, I would try and run some seafoam through the gas tank. Empty old oil, add new oil, new battery, just all the basics. Maybe even have a professional clean the gas tank for like 50 bucks. It will be a process to get her going though. Check out the faqs and the archives too for no start threads, also the search button. God bless
In my sig line is a link to the FSMs, download the 84/85 version for your SE. It has the entire fuel system layed out so you can hook all the lines up correctly. No real special tools needed.
In the FAQs is a thread on how to bring a rotary back to life, try that. Replace fuel filter, yes, pump, maybe, probably wouldn't hurt. Sitting for 5 years, you may need to remove the injectors and send them out for cleaning.
