exhaust temperature sensor problem

I have an 82 GSL and my exhaust temp overheat light has been on all the time (with a few seconds here and the when it is off) but it has never done this before the other day. It even does it when the choke is still on as the car warms up. Does this sound like an actual exhaust temperature problem, or just a short/bad sensor. Also, being as the sensor is under the floor mats, could it be easily damaged? If anyone has any helpful ideas or has had this problem themselves, please let me know.

When the sensor is on, check if your cats are glowing (if you still have them). They could be clogged and heating up the exhaust system.

dude, your car, Katrina, ******* rules! My car (82 GSL) is red, and i am converting the regular red ugly interior to a gray nad black interior. Also, on that light, it's on the second I start the car. (I still did the test to check if the cat is glowing) so i hope it's only and exhaust temp sensor. Thanks for the help, and I'll send in some pics of my car as it gets going along further. Also, i was wondering about how much that carb conversion costs. That looks ******* sick, and I'll bet you got some good HP gains.

Hmm... It does sound like its the sensor then, especially since it trips right when the car starts.

Thanks for the good words

The Weber 36 DCD project cost about $800 CDN when all was said and done, that includes the entire fuel system setup as well as the carbs. The gains I got were great, much more lower end response, good top end, and after I rebuilt the pair, got even better.
