Question Exhaust system questions

A few questions from someone not very familliar with exhaust systems.

I'm having the cat replaced by pipe and a RB presilencer----- the cat has holes and I don't need the expense of replacing it in a state with no emissions tests. The reason for the presilencer is that I'd like to keep the noise at about ---or only slightly above---- stock level. I'm not interested in a header, so I need to get the local muffler shop to customize a downpipe into the presilencer. BTW, the muffler is a Monza, bought last year.

Questions. 1. Will this setup do what I'm aiming for? Any obvious problems?
2. Do I need to request 1/8" thickness pipe as per RB recommendations or is that overkill? Do most muffler shops carry the thicker pipes?

3. Any problems in connecting the air pump flow into this?

Thanks for any help.

You will want the block off plate that RB sells for the EGR or whatever that line is going from the cat to the intake manifold.

you can buy a pipe with a presilencer already ready to bolt in from www.rx7.com
if you are so inclined.

If you already bought the presilencer then you can have them cut the flanges off the cat add a little bit o pipe and have your own bolt in presilenced cat replacement pipe, which will make life easier if you decide to upgrade to a better cat back or a header later on.

I do not see why you need anything thicker than the original piping. Or for that matter anything thicker than the pacesetter piping. I would prefer a good thick pipe all the way back but you shouldn’t worry about it as the pacesetter is probably thinner the whole rest of the setup.

Just my $02

ok, thanks. RB gave me the impression that they didn't carry any piece , except with a header, that extended from manifold to the presilencer. I'll check with them about your suggestion.

I should have added to original post that this is for a 1983 GS.
