FL exhaust smell in car

Is there any reason why when I open the windows up in my first gen the exhaust smell is strong?

It's because you don't own a Civic. Probably best to keep the windows up until you get that exhaust leak fixed.

More than likely, it's because your rear window seal needs replacing. I had the same symptoms on my 83 and replacing that seal fixed things very nicely. It's about $130 at Black Dragon Auto

Common causes are the rear window seal, and the taillight seals, especially the left one. Can also be a rust-through issue in the bottom of the fender wells.

Vacuum pocket behind the car draws exhaust in through pretty much any leak aft of the side windows.

it depends on the exhaust a little, but holes in the bottom of the car can do it too
