Exhaust Routing ??

Why would you want to do that. THe only advantage I can see with a setup like that is that you will have straighter pipes. But if you want to go more free flowing then why don't you just put side pipes on it? Also what about ground clearance. Think of all the things you will be smacking.

I did it on my CSP autox only car. Its the best way to go, but next to impossible to do on a streetcar. You save alot of velocity in the exhaust stream, unfortunately not very practical. Good thinking though!

Now there is another possibility that i havent seen mentioned. not that i am saying this is completely safe, nor would i do it near the fuel filter BUT you could always have the exhaust end before the rear axle. the downside is you may have a bad exhaust smell in your car and it'll get really warm. I had it done on a nova and it got really warm in there sometimes, and a rotary has hotter exhaust. thats just my idea, make sure you have a pipe pointing the exhaust downward too.

What if you removed the catalytic converters though and you get a few flames shooting out scorching everything. I do see a lot of muscle car guys doing this though, I just wouldnt try it in the 7.

I did that too after idea 1 (exhaust under axle) caused too many problems getting the damn car off and on the trailer. I put a turndown at the end so at least the flames would go toward the ground and not blowtorch the rear axle and gas tank. It was ungodly LOUD. I ended up going over the axle with a 3" pipe finally to a Dynomax muffler.

Well I had 4 cherrybombs if you consider that mufflers. Where would you fit a real muffler in that setup? Good thing was that the ground reflection muffled alot of the noise outside, but in the car was like standing next to a jet engine. And thats with a helmet on!
MR2Z, considering? Or done? Doesnt look bad, but I bet that muffler is nothing but ballast weight.

I am considering that set up as an option. Not completely sure what I will go with yet.... just a DIY'er, and think that would be a reasonable way to go.
