Exhaust Question Racing Beat

Budget exhaust build

I have a stock 1980 and looking at a used Racing Beat Streetable Header, Presilencer, and Mid-pipe… But I was told there where off an 1984 12a. Could I bolt these parts up and just run a muffler? I can see from Racing Beats website that the headers are physically different. But don’t know if it matters or what is changed. Or my other option I was thinking about was running the header with a striate pipe to Borla.

I’m not having to much luck searching.

Thanks Guys!
Chris

the type of exhaust u run will depend on ur state's noise ordinance. not sure of the bolt spacing top and bottom for the header but u can probably use the 84 header on the 80. the main difference is how the stock muffler from 80 and 84 bolts to the system.

Thanks! Yeah I’m concerned how the header would bolt up and if the bends in any of the (header, connector) pipes would cause any clearance issues. But with what’s being sold I would have to still fab a muffler. With the 84 having cats running this header, presilencer and mid-pipe would I be at the same length from the end of the stock mid-pipe on my 80? Then just bolt a muffler in?

Not sure maybe I should just wait until an header come for sale from an 80.

I've previously used the RB header and pre-silencer on my 80 with the stock Mazda midpipe, and everything bolted up perfect, both with the stock muffler and later with the RB muffler. No alignment issues.

I think its the muffler that's the prob.
Rear end pipe of 79/80 is diff length than 81+ so matching up the rear of the muffler to the rest of the system will be the sticky point. Nothing a good muffler guy couldn't fab I am sure. Other issues:
since trannys are diff btw 80 and the 81+, perhaps the mount point for the muffler hanger is diff there too?? This would be at/around the presilencer. I'd just hate to have someone muck up the undercarriage OEM mount points on your rather collectible LS there 'challer!!

Just curious, do you need new exhaust parts or are you just looking for a little added punch from the pleasure pedal, maybe while saving your stock exhaust? I'd keep your rare breed stock, but what ever trips the ole trigger.
