exhaust question

I have a noob question bout 85 exhaust. I'm going to install a full exhaust header down.. I plan on taking out the emissions later. Guess its what everyone is calling the rats nest. Im going to fab a straight in place of the catalytic converter. For now with the smog pump still installed, and the air line and check valve that goes to the catalytic converter intacked, BUT NOT CONNECTED TO ANYTHING, will this mess up performance in anyway?

Instead of the straight pipe i would go with a pre-silencer in place of the cat. I put on a 17 inch glasspack from j c whitiny right after the header. It only runs about $22.00, really helped keep the noise down. I ran a turbo ll muffler in the rear. I pulled all the emissions crap off but left on the air pump so the belt would help drive the water pump.
