Question shifter bend

Page 29 of the Mazda Competion manual says the shifter can beheated and bent - they find a bend of 20 degrees towards the driver is good. Has anyone ever tried this?
It seems like a small bend would be nice when I sit in my FB.

There is a rubber vibration isolation sleeve inside the stock shifter.

If you heat it enough to bend the bar, the rubber will catch fire!
Then the rubber will loose it's bond and the top half of the lever will come off.
Then you will have a short gooey smoking stump bottom half.

Get a short throw lever instead. You will love it.

Search this forum for the "miata short shifter" thread.
