Exclamation EXHAUST NOISE...can this calm it down....

Yes yes i know rotary engines are loud to begin with but i know i have an exhaust leak where my catalytic converter is at....and i know my converter is in bad shape as well...if i just bought a new hi-flow converter to replace the stock one do you think that might calm the noise down (nand perhaps make the car run a little bit better off the line)...or does my whole exhaust sytem need to be replaced....BTW i have a 1982 GS......

Concerning your leak, are any of the pipes rusted thru. Noise, are you running stock exhaust
or header system? Do you currently have the stock massive pellet converter on the car?

lol. you're still in the piston state-of-mind. It would only make it louder. I'd say it all depends. Racing Beat(best), Custom (depends on how it's made), or stock(lowsy). What do you want.?

Yeah i know im still in the piston state of mind...ive only been at this rotary wonder for about 4 months now so its kinda hard to get adjusted to this other type of engine...anyways Back to the disscussion...no i dont believe any other pipes are rusted through...and right now im all stock exhaust (for the time being)...I'm not that knowledgeable in the exhaust area so the "stock massive pellet" that you are refering to sounds a little (ok i mean alot) like greek to me (sorry). And i did not realize that replacing my cat would only making my 7 sound louder (thats crazy...again im still learning the rotary goodness)...This is what i want ultimately....I want it custom but i do want headers on it however i do want a hi flow converter because well i want to pass my state inspection for the car evey year (can you pass that inspection with the COMPLETE racing beat exhaust system in place?...i mean it doesnt have a converter in it...don't you need a converter to pass the test....im from TX by the way) ...ok i know im talking to much now...PLEASE help im still a newbie!!!

nope only stock can really pass the exhaust emissions. Racing beat isn't loud. Doing it custom will be loud however.

The stock converter is very large in size. As far as replacing it with a hi-flow one, it will not make it very louder if any. If the muffler is worn out, most of your noise will come from there.
If you get it to breathe better, it will run better. I recommend if you want to keep it smog legal that you put on your hi-flow cat and get racing beats muffler to replace your stock one.
It will add hp and get rid of the tinny sound and give it a more throaty mellow sound without being loud. rx7doctor.

I tried a complete custom built 2" dual exhaust system from a shop that builds V8 race & street systems - once. It blistered my eardrums. Trashed the whole thing & went back to RB. Your standard custom stuff can't handle the heat or loudness of a rotary.
