Exhaust News
Well after about 11 hours, the new Racing Beat "High Performance" exhaust is finally on. This has been a PAINFUL process because on my 1985 RX-7 GS, all the exhaust bolts were so rusted, not even an air-powered drill or hammer could get them out. ONCE you get to PUTTING ON the system, it is basically very easy. During the removal of the origional system, I followed some directions Racing Beat gave me. This was a very vauge, one-sided sheet of paper. It said to take the valve underneath the carb. off. It doesn't say which valve this is or what studs are there. Then it tells you to KEEP the gasket from that valve!!!! The gasket isn't even a gasket at this age!!!! I literally had to scrape all the junk off with a exacto knife. So luckily I had some gasket material and I just traced and cut out a new gasket the same size as the triangular piece that came with the Racing Beat kit. The next problem came when I tried to disconnect the 3 cats., the connecting pipe, and the muffler. All the bolts that were holding the individual peaces together were EXTREMELY rusted. I had to use a grinder and literally grind them off!!!! Next, on the connecting pipe, there was a little wire that was connected to a sensor of some sort I think. Well I just left this wire on and nothing has gone wrong yet. =) Finally I was able to install my new system. This was basically very easy and only took like 2-3 hours.
MY RX-7 IS SO FAST NOW!!!! It is unbelievable how fast it is now and how much acceleration it has. I never thought it would be this much of a gain in performance. It almost seems like a turbo has been put on the car. Also, there is now more room in the engine compartment to put extras in.
Racing Beat's "high Performance" exhaust products are exellent. They are very durable and the welding is superb. The problem is getting the old system off. Let me just tell you that you probably will need about one day or more to install the system. Also, if you would like to make the job go easier, look into getting some "air" products (drill, hammer, etc.). If anyone has any questions about installation, you can e-mail me at rotaryrx7@ameritech.net.

I second the notion! I just finished putting my RB streetport system on my -SE last night. Holy cool as **** batman! This bad boy rules!
And taking the stock stuff off was a pain in the ***.. Particularly the muffler to connecting pipe bolts. wouldn't budge with my impact wrench... Didn't have to go as far as gringing though.

If I were you, I would put in a header system right now. You won't believe the difference in acceleration. Let me give you an idea about how to visualize the difference between stock and the Racing Beat system. Try to exhale when your mouth is almost shut. This symbolizes the stock system. Next, try to exhale with your mouth open. This is the Racing Beat system. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me or leave a message here.

The original exhaust on these cars put a choke hold on the engine. I remember when I replaced my 3 cats and muffler. It sounds like a deep (not too deep) smooth humming sound. You definetly notice a difference in the pedal too.
Congrats on the upgrade guys!

The sound with the new Racing Beat "High Performance" exhaust is awsome. It is not too loud (just a little more then stock). The sound is smooth and pleasent. Remember piston engines go chug, chug, chug. Rotary engines go mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. You will basically hear the engine go "mmmmmmmmmmmm" but with more of a smooth feature. I will put up an audio sometime so you can hear what it is like.
The system was about $625.00. This includes shipping. Let me tell you that if you are going to replace your old system, please give me an e-mail or leave a message here because there are some extra things I would recommend you getting/thinking about before starting on the project. I bought my system from Racing Beat directly.

I have a 85 GS all stock & want to replace the whole system. Which header, stock or street port? Which muffler? Will straight through with only the new R.B. muffler be terrible loud? List the parts you would get if you were doing it again. Thanks

I thought that mazdatrix was selling the racing beat system? They just down the freeway from each other here in So. Cal.
Anyways, sounds like a good upgrade.
Next time, try using a sawzaw. I can get through the stock pipe in about 30 seconds with mine. Not even a cutting torch is faster. Eye and ear protection is a must!
