I thought that mine would be really loud too, but it's quieter. However, when you floor it, it's loud.

You still got a cat on it.. It'll still be pretty quiet. Take the cat outta there and it'll be a lot louder.

exhaust systems usually take about a week or two to break in. after that it gets louder and you get a tiny bump in power.

mine didnt seem very loud when I first got it.

I'm using a Racing Bleat header, their mini-presilencer, and the stock muffler on my '80, and it is still pretty loud when I get on the gas. I'm thinking of going to a full-length presilencer, I had one on my RX4 and it was much quieter as well as having a more pleasing deeper tone.

i didnt like how loud my exhaust was when i first got it, in fact, i was kinda dissappointed, but i love it now. its unique. but i understand with the whole cops thing, if theres one behind me, ill actually pull into a parking lot just to let him/her pass me. im so paranoid when it comes to that.

I do the same thing, I don't like them riding behind me either. If I pass one fixing to pull out, I'll watch in my rear view to see if he's coming my way.

Yea, I'm quite paranoid as well, though oddly enough, I've never in my life been pulled over (knock on wood), cause I'm such a responsible driver

speaking of which.. i was going down the road coming home from work one day, and its a 2 lane road, with no median on each side. cop is in the far right lane going the other way, im doign like ~45 in a 45, i watch him as he passes, he watches me. i look in the rear view mirror, hes doing a sharp *** u-turn in the middle of the road, and comes haul *** behind me. (i was a good ways away by the time he turned around, now hes almost on my ***. im freaking out, stomach FAR beyond my feet. i turn into a turnlane because thats where i was going, and i see him take a sharp left. i was thinking he was going to pop out somewhere and cut me off or some bullshit like that. so i was actually thinking about going straight instead of turning, but i turned anyway, and i see him with his lights on with a SUV on this little side road.. im thinking WTF? because i was the only one on the road at the time.. it was weird, but it sure made me **** my pants.

ive only been pulled once, and it was because i has bald tires on the front, it was raining like a bitch, and the light turned yellow, so i downshifted and went through, a mile down the road an undercover cop pulls me. said he pulled me for my exhaust and running a red light. he looked under the car in the rain, saw i had a cat and a muffler, gave me this LONG *** lecture of to go below the speed limit if i dont feel comfortable. i showed him the tires and said thast why i didnt stop . he was actually kind of a **** to me, but i was an out-of-towner there, and he didnt give me a ticket. so it was all good.

anyone else ever been pulled for exhaust?

Yeah, I got the paranoia, too. I have'nt been pulled over for it, but during a speeding ticket, I was "let go on that one".
I have a dump with an electric motor hooked up. it bypasses my muffler, but not the presilencers. Still really loud. I did'nt know this jerk right on my *** at 60 was a cop! So I dropped it down, and took it quick to 80 to shake him. (He was less than a car length behind at 60!). He flashed his lights - lights in grille, windshield, and mirrors; non on top.
I was actually relieved because we were about to round a curve and then I was gonna really floor it!

Anyway, he asked if there was something wrong with my exhaust or did I just like it that way. I told him that I just liked it that way!
He was cool. Just doing his job.

BTW, this all happened on a straight away rural road- RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY INLAWS HOUSE!!! They were inside, but sometimes they listen to the scanner.
The look on my father-in-laws face next time I saw him- Like the cat that ate the canary! He knew something I did'nt know he knew!
They still tease me about it.

Alot of these guys that say "That'll be really loud" have driving habits where they're always driving past 3K RPM where power is on tap, so to speak. I drive that way, too. But I'm learning how to dog it a bit more if I leave the exhaust dump open. I can pass by a cop at 50 @ 2500 RPM and not get a look (or at least not a hassle).
Jump on it, and it springs to life!
I still do the under-pass thing.

It doesn't matter if you're doing anything illegal or not, if a cop follows you long enough, he'll eventually invent some reason to pull you over. I never let cops follow me. If one gets behind me, I'll immediately pull into a parking lot or turn off the road. That forces the cop to make a quick decision whether or not to hassle me. So far none have followed me into a parking lot. *knock on wood* -WG

I've cruised beside a couple cops before and they amazingly haven't pulled me over yet. My setup is shorty headers into 2.5 inch then into 3inch finishing with a straight through muffler. I can hear the car idling from inside my house with the windows closed. So maybe the cop like the sound or something because when crusing beside me they can DEFINATLY hear it.

I used to worry that the non-suppression metal-conductor wires I used on my RX4 would raise havoc with the cop's radios. They did mess with the TV reception, according to my wife. Never got pulled over, though. In fact, the only time I ever got pulled over in that car was when I gave a motorcycle cop behind me "the blue kiss" when I took off at the green light. The cop said " uh, your car was smoking quite a bit when you took off back there". I told him "yes, I know, these rotary engines inject oil like a two-stroke motorcycle and my injector pump has been hanging up in the open position sometimes. I'll have to fix that darn thing again." Then the cop says "I like your honesty, most people say "gee, I had no idea it was smoking", or some other lame excuse. Just try to get it fixed as soon as you can, okay?"

Gotta love it...
