ON Exhaust issues...

Ok so here's the low down info needed to understand the issues.

I've got twin pipes from the front to just before the rear axle where it joins into one goes over the axle then to a rather small magnaflow muffler.

So from the engine, I've got a Set of Racing Beat headers (race) from there they continue into 30" spiral tooth resonators. They look like cherry bombs from the outside but have about 70 1 inch teeth in a spiral around the inside, not sure if they're the issue or not, then join and head over the axle to as above to a 1' X 1/2' x 3" oval muffler that I think may be the real issue.

So the Actual issue is that it is VERY loud at idle and accel, but not bad during driving(ie: not accelerating just cruising)

I've got a Racing Beat intake kit for non ported 12 A, but it likely needs a tune.

I want to know what I need to do to make this quieter, I've not had any problems with the police in Toronto (Canada) yet but I don't want to start anything.

I'm planning on replacing the little magnaflow muffler with something else on monday, I'm thinking of a "pre-silencer" but RB products are a little tough to get on short notice up here. Plus as the exhaust collects right before the rear axle I'm not sure where in the line I'd put it.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks
James

Doesn't sound like a problem at all, infact thats what most of us dream of. I would love the sound of open headers at idle and WOT but driving around town and in parking lots I like it to be quiet.

Well, I know it's a pretty nice setup, and it drives great, however I do get a small hic-up when I punch it after switching gears.. prolly the carb needs a proper tune. But the constant drone of the exhaust is seriously getting on my nerves..

try getting a racing beat rear muffler if you can, thats probably your best bet.

Get the RB muffler and it will be much quieter, but you will lose a lot of power. Cut out those presilencers and get Dynomax Bullet presilencers from summit racing and weld those in. They are much better silencers than the louvered core crap... And you'll gain some flow over the louvered crap too.

Are there any solutions that don't involve RB products, like above they're not particularly easy to come by up here without waiting a few weeks for delivery. And I'd like to get driving soon. So I am going to keep my spiral tooth resonators, and it's going to be a new muffler, but what should I cram up there that will be quieter than a tinly little flow through magna flow.

Not really. RB has a huge stranglehold on the performance FB community. You could try a bigger magnaflow or a borla, but there is no guarentee that'll help. Generally if you need a quiet performance exhaust you have to shell out big bucks for the RB. If you don't mind a bit of noise you can try magnaflow or bolra, but usually those setups end up being too loud and people have to have multiple units to settle the noise down.

If you are not inclined to completely fabricate your own exhaust RB is the way to go. I got one and I must say it is very quiet. I have no comment about power as I've never had another muffler but my car hauls well.

No, can't really overnight parts from the US. Mostly as it's .80 on the $1, plus shipping, plus duties, plus customs etc.. so whatever "deal" I may find it will end up almost costing double to bring it up to Canada.

Borla all the way. I had Borla exhaust; actually a Borla ProXS as a presilencer, and a Mazdaspeed protege muffler (round tip mufflers built by Borla, Oval tip mufflers built by RacingBeat); and it was fairly quiet on mild acceleration and cruising, but when you floored it, it would wake up nicely.

EDIT: Ignore the one wheel peel and the muffler dropping (stupid muffler shop didn't weld a hanger from BEFORE the wheel arch back, so it drooped) and this is how it sounds on full throttle.
