Exhaust help!

I've been trying to take off the last metal shielding over where the muffler bolts on to the rest of the exhaust. There's two bolts that I can't break free. Ive tried everything I can think of, but the metal bends before the bolt. Does anyone have any suggestions?

heat or don't try to turn it loose break it loose. put some pb blaster on them and let them set. take a socket and put some pressure on it with some sort of pipe extension on it. then take a hammer with the pressure applied and smack the extension. the sharp impact of the hit will break the nut loose if it is going to come loose. that or impact gun.

It might be too late for that method. Both the bolts were already stripped to begin with, and I certainly didn't help. Do you think drilling it out is the next best step?

May have to cut it off and forget about it. Maybe show us a pic of what you are wrestling with.

I don't know if I can work on it much due to my bad back, but on Friday I'm taking it in to my shop class and getting it on a lift and seeing what I could do there. I'm thinking about drilling it out or taking a angle grinder to it, but I don't want to mess up the shielding too much.

If you are talking about the plastic shield that comes off with the carb.

No the metal shielding covering the bottom of the piping before the muffler (not sure what the real name is)
