exhaust goes on next weekend, will aluminized steal hold up?
i finally have everything ready to put my exhaust on. the only thing is i have to get an exhaust shop to put all my components on. no exhaust shop around here uses stainless steal. i dont care as long as aluminized steal will hold. this is going on my DD so i dont care about mandrel mends too much. heres the set up:
RB header(wrapped)-RB presilencer- magnaflow 14" high flow muffler- borla xr-1
the aluminized steal will be used to mate in the magnaflow and the borla. do i have anything to worry about or am i just crazy?

you dont need to worry. aluminized steel wont rust, will be able to handle high temps, and lasts long. my friend has aluminized steel mufflers on his 180 silvia and its been holding up just fine

My original crush bent 2.5" system behind the S4 TII held up just fine for a couple years.
I ended up going SS manadrel bent 3" just for the sake of taking all precautions with my S5 setup, but the aluminized mild steel stuff that all muffler shops use, seemed to work well for me.

Really though teh stainless steel ones aren't that much more than the aluminized ... I bought a 10' piece which was more than enough for everything for about 70$US and installation and bending well that cost the same no matter what you really put in ... So i would vouch for the Stainless steel ...
Aluminized will still hold up just fine though ...

i know where i can get SS pipe for 5' for $50. thats not an issue, its just if i go through the trouble of getting that then ill want to get mandrel bends which is more money and more time. its not that big of a deal for me at this time.
both mufflers im using are SS. i asked the shop if theyd have a problem welding the aluminized steal to the SS and they said no. so i shoudl be good to go. it should be going on friday.

I bought an 8' piece of aluminized pipe for $14 with tax. Thats a 2.5" and its pretty thick. I don't how its going to get get ruined very quickly, even with my really open exhaust. NO worries.

**update**
i got the stock exhaust off today. the header and presilencer were then installed. i drove it with just those to the exhaust shop a few miles away, all back roads. my buddy followed me in his MS protege. load, is all that could describe it. haha. you should have seen the cop we passed going flying. i think he was too surprised to even care. i should be getting the car back tomorrow.
i tried to take pics today but apparently my digital camera got "misplaced." ill try to find it and get pictures/video tomorrow.
also, teh exhaust isnt crimp bent, itll be mandrel bent.

pics. uploading videos to streetfire right now. this sounds GREAT! very quiet during idle, low load, but when you open her up it sounds awsome. borla all the way.

I don't like any single outlets on our cars .. unless you modify the rear bumper to make it look more there ... but sounds good so far.
Also is that a header wrap on there? Alot of people are saying thats a no no to do, because trapping the heat will only cause the metal to disintegrate faster.
You need to get a video of it just standing still and just position the camera behind so we can hear how good the brapping sound is.

yes its header wrap. i did my share of research on the subject before i decided to go that route. RB headers are WAYY too beefy to even think about them having problems with header wrap. heck, a guy on teh forum has been using header wrapped pacesetter headers on a race car for over 7 years. so i dont think its an issue. i read all the people doing it, but i dont even see one person have problems with it.
i agree i usually dont like the single tip. i wanted a 3"-4" turn down, but those arent too easy to come by.
ill get a video tomorrow with the camera sitting behind the car so you can here idle and some revving.

I debated using header wrap, but decided I would wait till the shine has wore off the RB header. At the current rate, it may be a few (hundred) years before that becomes an issue....... LOL
Looks good, other than the turndown at the end. While some may like it, I'm not a huge fan the smallish turndowns. I haven't had much luck in finding a decent looking 4" tip to add on mine, so I am making my own. My borla-clone ss muffler has a 4" outlet, but is far too short for my taste. Gotta get the presilencer installed, though. Just a tad bit loud without it. I just didn't have a way to mod my stainless pipe when I put the header on.
