Exhaust Gaskets Burn :)

My gslse keeps burning the exhaust gaskets from the manifold to the pipes. I had the exhaust shop put in a gasket with a steel fire ring and it only lasted a week longer than the standard one. Are there any high heat high quality ones made for rotraries from like racing beat or something??

seeing how stock units from mazda last untill there removed or atleast for over 100,000 miles. Did you modify your engine?? check your fuel mixture. Make sure there putting it on correctly.. a small leak in a dam will cause it to shatter sooner or later.

not that I know what I am talking about but hey.. just trying to port *****!

Drunkclever, if your going to post ***** spell it correctly. :-)
To answer the question, the aftermarket gaskets that are of a non-steel construction do not work on our engines. You need the factory gaskets.

i assume you can get them from places other than the mazda dealership... cause they would charge about $10,000 for the gasket - that's if it hasnt been discontinued

You assume correctly. Racing Beat, Mazdatrix, Blackdragon, just a few.

You would be surprised that the price is the same as Mazdatrix or close at the dealership and you won't be paying shipping charges either.
There is a wholesale Mazda dealer. http;//www.mazdaautoparts.com
Of course there would be shipping with them but I checked their prices versus RB and Mazdatrix and they are lower.
Also if you have a Auto parts store around you that has access to Beck Arnley parts they will be OEM quality also.

check to make sure you're not running too lean....thatwould heat the exhast up quite a bit..also sounds like you may have a small exhaust leak between the header flange and block... any outside air that get's in there can cause things to get pretty hot also...

$7.00 at advance auto parts though you do have to wait on shipping atleast you dont have to pay for it also you may want to check the mating surfaces on the flanges for the pipe and the mani. mine did the same thing till i finally got sick of it and pulled the mani offf for better inspection and found a run in the sealing surface from corrosion. caused me to go through a seal every 2 weeks, i used some magnum steel and its been fine ever since.

if you burn up factory ones after you replace your current ones, you may want to check if your flanges warped somehow. This will cause them to fail extremely quickly.

Advance has them. If you call the store, they'll have it delivered to the store for free. Usually next day or 1-3 for rare items.

lol I didnt use a gasket and used a bunch of permatex exhaust gasket sealer, and wrapped it with a thin band of stainless steel and a pipe clamp, no leaks yet!

what can I say? Im cheap as hell.

?
all of the manifiold to header gaskets from advanceauto and others are only a small ring and tabs for each port. I am concerned about leaving space free to warp the flange in other areas not having gasket material there.

The RB gasket for instance covers the whole flange surface, seems like there is a reason for this.

does this matter?

am I not finding the right gasket at A.Auto? the path leads me to Exhaust Pipe/Flange Gasket section, it does not refer to manifiold to flange section

any input?

I've found the mani to pipe gasket at the local muffler shops. It must be one that has an aluminized Coating. The fiber ones, even with the steel crush rings, will not last.

Both of the flange mating surfaces must be smooth, flat and free of rust pits for the best long term seal.

Try this:

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductL...anifold+Gasket

The first was just for flange gaskets.

Here's all the exhaust stuff:

After 10 ones from the muffler shop that i have treated with ultra copper, stove sealer stuff, eskimo magic, etc, they all burn out in a week or 1 backfire. I ordered the oem one from MAZDATRIX and it was the officiall one from mazda. It was made with steel mashed around asbestos with a large fire ring. It has held up perfectly for a month now.

THE STOCK MAZDA GASKETS are the only way to go. I never tried a custom fab copper one though....
