You obviously have no idea how loud rotarys are. With a straight header and nothing more, I wear ear plugs in the shop, at idle.

I have to second Trochoid on this one. Straight header 13b was one of the loudest cars I've ever heard. I have a friend with a 69 camaro w/ an insane 496, his car is loud, but the 13b just plain hurts.

I believe it's even louder w/ headers than the stock manifold.

I heard a stockport 12A without an exhaust manifold once. It was cool...

I ran my '80 with a cutout.

It wasn't as loud as an open header, but it was far from quiet, too.

In my opinion, it's much easier to spend the money on a streetable straight-through exhaust (quality mufflers and LOTS OF THEM) than to use a cutout. See, the problem is, you have to rejet the carb when you take the cap off of the cutout, then rejet it back when you put the cap back on. Serious PITA.

The factory exhaust manifold and precats are very effective mufflers in their own right. The RX-7 exhaust system, from the factory, is a carefully engineered *series* of muffling devices.

A header, pipe, and factory muffler is probably louder than what you have, the factory mufflers do a remarkably small fraction of the total muffling.

Loudest rotary or any other type of vehicle I ever heard was at a tractor pull in Australia, ready for this, 3 X 13b BP engines linked in line with 6" drive shafts all running open exhaust one pipe per rotor at 45 degree to block.

This beast hurt your eyes, ears and skin at 50 yards.

There were other multi V8 engined vehicles but you couldn't hear them over the rotary,

When I still had my 85 GS, I taped it with open header and it made my camara **** up.

I've heard an NA 13B straight manifold revv up to 8,000RPMs and it really wasn't that loud......until it backfired LOL. I would like to tractor pull with rotaries LOL. Except mine would be 3 20Bs that are blown and alcohol injected LOL Oh and this thread is useless without video or sound clips LOL
