exhaust in car

I'm getting a lot of exhaust in the car particularly when the windows are open.
I'm told this is a typical problem with old rx7's.
what can I do?
I'm new on the site and I'm still figuring out how to use it.
what is the main cause of the exhaust getting in the car? there is no leaks in the system, and everything else seems to be in order, I'm just getting brain damage from breathing all the fumes !
please reply or refer me to a place that has the info
thanks

Check the condition of your hatch and tail light seals. Worn seals in these places are known to allow fumes to enter the cabin. And my guess for you getting a stronger oder when you roll your windows down is that it creates kind of a vacume and air (fumes) is sucked in through the bad seals.

Yep, check the seals around the tail lights for sure...

See this link on the mazdatrix site at the bottom it has a blurp about the hatch seal.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/n-4.htm

Its probably the hatch seal thats bad, but check the tail lights as mentioned.

checking the seals is the easy place to start, but also check the exhaust joints - old, worn and/or broken gaskets will cause that, too.
