Exclamation Exhaust Buzzer?

Test drove an 82 and when I start, there's a "wtwinkle-twinkle-twinkle-twinkle" sounding buzzer/siren that I would normally associate with "hey dummy, you left your keys in the ignition" warning when you open the door to get out.

The noise won't stop, until the car warms up a little, but then starts again after a hard turn.

No idiot lights come on when it is making the noise, and it doesn't overheat.

Someone said this might be an exhaust buzzer?? Stops when exhaust warms up?? That makes little sense to me.

On the radiator, where the hose connects, there's a massive leak. My theory is that this is the low coolant alarm? However, I've had two other 7's that don't do this when low on coolant so I'm not sure?

If it's a coolant alarm, no biggie. The problem will go away as soon as I throw the new radiator in her.

Just wondering. Anyone got more definate answer??

Thanks!

Don't think so. If it was, the sensor's broken. Dipstick shows plenty of oil, guage jumps to 60 as soon as it starts, and to about 45 once you let the choke back in...

I'm hoping it's simple, since the car seems to run quite smoothly, no smoke, no strange noises under the hood, etc... etc...

Are all the idiot lights working? Put the key in and turn it ON, but don't start the engine. It'll light up all idiot lights.

Some cars have functional warning buzzers, some don't... It's all luck of the draw.

Yep.... They all work. Wondering if this "Exhaust Buzzer" is real... My feeling is maybe one of the door switches is stuck open...

I had em disabled on my RX-7 for a little while.

Remove one of the screws that holds the door swtich in. Put a large flat washer under it and retighten the screw. It'll hold the switch down.

Alternatively, loosten both screws and put a penny over the button, then tighten the screws so that they hold the penny.

The low coolant warning is a higher pitch "DING". If that is what the sound is I would definately check it out.

It's a high pitched "ding-dong" or "Twinkle--Twinkle" sound. I know the radiator has a massive leak at the bottom where the hose connects (cracked metal), so it has a coolant leak there. The low coolant buzzer on my 85 GSL and 83 LE was different.

Hmmm... guess I'll really know after I buy it and throw a radiator in her.

I'm not sure on this, but it could be something else. If you ever forget to turn your headlights off, there is a "buzzer" that sounds like a small bell ringing. Kinda like "ding, ding, ding, ding". Its hard to explain but thats what it sounds like you are hearing.

Its either that or something called the oscillator. I've only read about this though and have no clue what it is or what it does.

Kewl. Don't much matter now I guess, I said I'd buy it...

Can't wait to have running REX again! It's not my Silver LE, but it will work in a pinch.

You can fix that radiator. Just use JB weld.
