exhaust

its time to get rid of the stock exhaust. im not very smart when it comes to gas velocity and all that but it dosent seem complicated. the idea is an RB header with a borla xr1 and a presilencer. i have no idea what to put in between, would a straight pipe directly from the header to the muffler with a 2.5" diameter work ? should i go 2 inch? ive heard good things from a magnaflow muffler but im very picky about sound. im on stockport so im not expecting anything crazy a friend with an fc told me flames are possible would that be possible to do safely or should i stay away from flames period?

Why not just buy a RB street port exhaust from Racing Beat? I have the complete exhaust on my 80 and it sounds absolutely fantastic!

Does anyone know anything about the new level motor sports header? Is there a difference between that and the RB?

Their just a reseller of other brands. A quick search of their site found they resell the pacesetter cats but I did not see any full exhausts or a headers.

You can use it on any motor ... I got a RB road race header installed on my 82 GSL. ....it will go all the way to the back 2.5 in diameter to a Magnaflow muffler.

while i agree on RB system being a bit pricey, it's a one and done kinda thing. unfortunately i haven't used anything else so i wouldn't know about other systems.

It works perfectly fine on a stock port engine. There's a noticeable power gain and sound is great. The cost is higher but as rxtasy3 said, its a one and done thing. No searching for parts or gaskets, fitment is great and it will hold up. Some other exhaust brands do not hold up well under the heat from the rotary's exhaust temps.

I zoomed into the lower left corner of the photo that raven12aFB posted .. and it definitely looks like the header is wrapped.

For a stock or lightly modified 12A .. I would recommend a 2.0" exhaust system. A 2.5" exhaust can support upwards of 400hp and may be a bit overkill.

If you really want a bang for your buck, run a straight pipe on the stock system. My car sounded better than a lot of peoples because it was broken lmao

Only the 79 and 80 came with a thermal reactor. You car being an 85 will have a standard exhaust manifold. Removing the converters and keeping the stock muffler will make the car quite a bit louder. Tolerable but slightly raspy. My recommendation is still for the RB system. If I could post a sound clip of my car I would. I think you'd like it!

If you buy the RB exhaust, I would buy the complete system. No messing around with pieces and parts, gaskets, and fitment issues. Just one complete exhaust system and done.
