They both look cool, but very different. I'd like to see pictures of both at night...

no these old ones look like ****.

if you look at them from any other angle than what is shown above, the light fixture reflects teh colored bubls making it look **** brown.

the clear frosties is about 100% better.

pictures do them NO justice, you really ahve to see them in person.

know what? how to get ahold of an rx-7 center piece? you could buy them back in the 80's.

i've never seen one for re-sale since then.

i think it would look better if the plate was painted, and the "Rx-7" script would be clear, so that it shines rx-7 at night. good idea.

so the rx7 plate was only made as an aftermarket item back in the 80's? they didnt come factory on any years? if so, could you state which years.

To get the center bit off: lift up the rear carpeting flap in the very rear middle. there are two nuts on the rear shell. unscrew them. take off the center bit.

If you have any experience of fabricating something, or want to try making something... this is a great idea. All you need is the right measurements and you pretty much can do whatever you want. There are no special mounting issues... just 2 nuts... if i had the time or the energy i might do that.

i was thinking about making a chrome one, where the rx-7 would be cut out, with glass over it with a neon light or LED behind it. Chrome might clash with my red paint so i might have to switch to somehting else

Sorry for the late response.

<P>

I got the RX-7 piece from a friend of mine who had it laying around. It was a a little scratched up so he didn't want it. I really can't tell you where it is originally from. I am sure it is an old piece that has been around for a long time & was probably made by an aftermarket manufacturer. The reason I believe it is and aftermarket is b/c the mounting bolts didn't even line up to the cars holes. I had to drill new holes in the rear of the car. For somereason I think it may be from Japan, just hunch from my vague memory.

<P>

I may have a pic of it at night but it is probably on my work computer. I will have to look for it on Monday.

<B>
for now I uploaded a couple more pics...these are before I put on the RX-7 'plate'

I started making the rear RX-7 design. The hardest part is finidng the materials and getting a good stensil. Ill fill you all in once i finish. Hopefully ill have mine installed by the end of this week, minus the lighting, because i havnt decided how i want to go about it.

Jim, if you want a nice resolution independent stencil, I did a vector version of the logo for my shirts. Give the word and the size, and I'll send you something you can print out.
