Ethics Question (Buying another Rx-7)
Okay I have this guy that I used to work with who's buying an 85 Rx-7 NON -SE for $750 CND. Apparently, the body look great (minor ding here and there), nearly no rust and the engine runs strong. He's really pumped on buying it, but he's only planning on keeping it until June.
Here's the problem, I want another seven, for parts and for the motor to rebuild and practice my street port while my car is still running. The car he's buying has 120K Miles on the clock with NO rebuild. Now I know that's nothing spectacular because a well cared for N/A rotary can go waaay longer than that, but this guy is a bit of a ricer and a really bad horsepower exaggerator. His first planned mod was to slap on a huuuge shot of NAAAWS ( say in the 150 range). Now I was about to pipe up and do some educating, but shut up instead.
Here's my question, if I let him **** with it, put NAAWS, abuse and **** kick it it will probably die before June right? Will the engine internals be in ANY kind of useable shape or will they most likely be FUBAR'd? I don't need two Running engines, so should I let him kill the engine, then buy it off him or will it not be worth it? Should I be a semi-decent guy and point him in the right direction, and sign him up for the forum? He doesn't strike me as the kind of guy with the patience to learn. NOS is his God, there is none higher for him. But I need the engine for the imminent rebuild and a parts car would be nice. My car died at 130K miles on the previous owner, I got it at 140K and now it's wound out to 181K. What to do, what to do ! -George

If he's only planning on keeping the car until June, he probably won't install NOS.. it wouldn't make sense for him to go to the trouble. I think it's "bravado" speaking.. just wait and see.

Actually, a shot of nitrous that big on an otherwise stock engine will only result in some nasty backfires through the carb. DO NOT ASK ME HOW I KNOW THIS. There just isn't enough chamber volume or flow to consume that much nitrous. Let him screw around and with it and when it won't do what he wants, buy it off him for scratch.

Funny though, as much talk as there is about nitrous, either nobody wants to talk about it, or no one has been sucessfull in an installation.

Good this is really what I wanted to hear. He may just be bullshitting about alot of what he "plan's" to do with it, but somehow I don't doubt that the motor will meet it's timely demise before June. What are the chances are getting decent housings and other internals out of it?
Or if I'm going to the trouble of buying a blown motor should I wait until I find a blown 13B and build a 12A/13B 4 port motor, with a street port on it? Does anyone have one of these? I'd like to build one with lightweight rotors off a second gen. Or should I stay true to the SA and keep the 12A alive.
Last question......how do I turbo my 12A? Just kidding guys. -George

^ BUMP^ Gotta know weather or not this engine is worth my hard earned cash. What should I offer him once the engine is blown, taking into account that he's paying 750$ for it running? Thanks.
