Engine wont go past 4,000rpms

I've been having random bouts of my engine not going past 4,000rpm when I try to accelerate fast. If i go from a stop into first and then floor it, it accelerates normal untill about 3,500-4,000rpms. The car shakes a little like i let off the gas completely. It also happens in second.

This only happens about 1/4 times i try to accelerate. And usually goes away after a few minutes of regular driving.

Does anyone think the Cat might be clogged?

what year is the 7? if its a 79 as your name would suggest, it does not have a catylitic converter. at this point i would start by rebuilding the carb and replacing the fuel filter. check the plugs for wear and interior corrosion.

Sounds like my 79 when I first got it. What exhaust set up are you running? My acceleration issues were resolved with ditching the clogged exhaust. Something makes me think the secondaries may be contributing to the issue, though.

Dude, replace your fuel filter. Chances are, that's all you need to do. The fuel filter gets clogged, and then your pump can't keep the float bowls filled with fuel. Once you run through the fuel available in the bowls with a hard run, you start starving for fuel.

But if for some reason that does not solve the problem, then consider rebuilding the carb.
