Engine swap 13b - Finer details

My 12A blew in my 1983 Series 2 an I'm lookin at my options to rebuild it or replace it.

I have done lots of searching on the subject im just tryin to sort out the finer details which most people who have done the swap seem to know, but leave out when they write up on here

I can get a series 4 13B for a good price. I know that i need to change the front mount(I will use RB front engine mount adapter thing) and get an oil pan off a GSL-SE(Also from RB) Will i need to change the oil pick up? or will it be sweet

The 13B will bolt up to the 12A tranny right?....(I can get the S4 tranny but then i would need mounts for that, drive shaft, shifter......... and i would rather not)

I'm guessin i will need to get the oil cooler of the S4? I've read the standard one on the 12A is crap
Also would i need to replace the radiator?

I would probably run the factory ECU, or would it be easier to run it with a carb. Or should i say how much would it cost to buy a carb set up

I know i will need to get an exhaust to fit.

I have more questions but this is enough for now.
I know getting the 13B in wont be too complicated, im just not sure about all the little things like, oil lines, radiator hoses, fuel pump, etc.

Any help would be good and appreciated

P.s all of this is coming from a guy sayin to me "Yeh just chuck a 13B in it, no sweat" an i said "hmmmmm, im sure theres more to it"

P.p.s I haven't ruled out rebuilding the 12A

it would be a good idea unless you have a S2 oil cooler. and as for the radiator, cooler is always better.

As long as the 12a housings are good I'd say port it and rebuilt it. The 13b wil bolt up directly to the 12a tranny and I think all 83-92 n/a clutch discs as the same. I've always heard the stock water/oil coolers are junk too, but I've been using the stock one on my 12a turbo for amost 4 years and have had no problems with it. If you know what you're doing with electronics and wiring then the stock ecu will work fine, if not then a carb will work good too.

Yes you will need a GSL-SE oil pan. A moroso oil baffle is a good inexpensive addition while you have the pan off. 12A oil pickup works. 12A engine mount works if you drill 2 holes in the cross member ¾” further forward for the engine mounts. You also have to trim the edges of the lower washer. A little work, but its free.

’83 has the water-to-oil cooler(aka- behive) and full length radiator. GSL-SE or pre-83 Radiator and Oil cooler are the easiest swap.
