Engine sits crooked

Just put my engine back in the car after painting the engine bay and it sits crooked. The back of the transmission sits towards the passenger side of the car and I cannot get to one of the screws that bolts the shifter to the top of the tranny without tearing the shift boot. Any Ideas how this could be since there is no room for adjustments where the engine mounting bracket bolts to the engine.

I did drop the entire front suspension out of the car when I painted the engine bay but I dont really see where that can be adjusted. Thanks

engine isn't supposed to be straight. the boot is kind of a PITA, if its really a problem, then you could unbolt it from the car

Make sure you don't have the engine mount bracket on backwards! It should be marked with a stamped arrow labelled "LH" for left-hand (driver's) side. It's not symmetrical - it's longer to one side than the other.

Loosen motor mounts, rotate engine, tighten motor mounts. I ran into this after last install...

From looking at it previously, It seemed as though it could only really go on one way. If I were to turn the mount around, I dont think the engine would even line up with the engine mount bracket. I have looked at several rx7s at the junk yard and they all seem to be sitting a little crooked, but mine never use to be that I can recall.

also, I never tightened any of the nuts except the ones that mount the engine mount plate to the engine. the nuts going to the engine mounts are loose.

The engine should be sitting at an angle toward the driver's side. IIRC it's supposed to be something like 10 degrees.

The engine is offset toward the driver's side to give more room for a big turbo!
