engine rebuild-how to lock the flywheel

Hey, I have a friend who has pulled the engine out of his first gen already, and he has the 54mm socket, but can't keep the flywheel locked. Are there any simple solutions other than buying the tool from mazdatrix?

thanks

i made the tool from mazdatrix for six bucks

went to home depot and bought a 4 foot piece of angle iron. drilled two holes in it and bolted it to the flywheel. angle iron hits ground, flywheel won't move. spin her off!

Use the front motor mount . One bolt to the engine block where the tranny bolts up, and one through where the cluch bolts to .

Heres one- stick a small pry bar through the exhaust port and turn the engine until it locks, wa-la. Of coarse you might have to replace the rotor housing and rotor!.

Yeah, I used a 3/4" impact wrench myself, and I put the engine on a "custom made stand" (consisting of a dryer drum and an old tire )and used some tie down straps (ratcheting kind) to hold it to the stand so it couldnt move. I had the sucker SOLID .
