Okay, I want to re-build this engine and I want to do it properly, I am hoping to get some porting done (exhaust and street port on the intake) but I am wondering, what else should I do while the engine is apart?

Apex seals and other such things, should I look into getting after market replacements or just use OEM spec. components?

hop on ebay,
i always see complete rebuild kits for cheap,

also if your going to do the porting yourself "i wouldnt recomend" then also check ebay,
i seen quite a few templates go for $15.00

 

i was going to buy the templates and then have someone do it for me, it is really expensive for a local shop to do it so i was looking for an individual to help me.

By the kit do you mean the gasket set? because I already have a full set by Felpro (good people, I've done alot through them, they are the best in my opinion.
