engine knock

My car is acting up more and more. When I accelerate, especially in 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear I hear a bad knock or click sound. Does anybody have any ideas??

detonation? if it is, it's real bad. Suggest you don't drive it until you can confirm whether or not. Do a search on detonation, what causes it and how to handle.
