Engine Gone, Halfway There, Paint Tomorrow, Just one question...

Well, I suppose I'm at the halfway point now, the old engine is out of the car, the new one is sitting next to it waiting to be put in. Everything is out of the engine bay (well, almost everything) and it's all masked off ready to painted (just the engine bay). I should be spraying it on wednesday, New engine to go in on Friday if everything goes according to plan. For those wondering the engine is a rebuilt 12a streetport with 2000 miles. An OER Carb from rotaryshack, and as soon as it gets here, full streetport exhaust from racing beat. Paint is Competition Yellow Mica, by Dupont, and well, my $700 beater is being transformed into a (wait, carry the one...3+7=9, no 10...) $3700 sports car. I suppose I won't be getting rid of her for a long time.
I have but one question. How many of the miscellaneous tubes, wires etc can I leave off. Obviously all the emissions stuff is gone so thats a no brainer, and all the a/c is gone. What else can I remove to cut down on the amout of clutter in the bay?
oh yeah, and some pics.

if you put the fuel pump on a switch you ought to be able to remove the entire pass side wire harnass.

all the wires on the pass side that go to the ecu. they are not neccesary if you have aftermarket carb/intake.

I just took EVERYTHING out, then only installed the stuff I needed. Simple.

Actually it wasnt because I opened the stock wire harness and removed all the wires in it that I didnt need, then closed it up. That, among other things, really reduced the clutter.

You still have a lot of stuff you can take out of the bay before painting. I would remove everything except the harness and brake components. You'd be suprised how much rust is hiding behind all of those little brakets and screws, I was.

When I did mine, the only thing left in the bay was the wiring harnesses. Absolutely everything else was out. I tend to get carried away some days.

The fuel pump relay, fuel pump, choke, choke and check relay, thermo sensor, clutch and neutral switchs all go through the ecu. If you don't need a working choke or cruise control, the rest can be bypassed and then ecu can probably be removed. I have conciderd this, but never got that far.

obviously you mistook how those pictures were laid out...if you look carefully at the first picture the only things that are in there are the brake lines (which are masked off) and the wiring harness (masked Off). I pulled nearly everything else

If it is warm enough. I would go ahead and ditch all the heater stuff from the engine bay.

and the Washer bottle and cold start bottle.

Hot start assist and the realy for it. There was a relay for the AC that you should have pulled.
