Engine Braking?

I just bought an 84 GSL and I'm trying to fix it(mainly cosmetic work). During my test drives I've noticed that when I let off of the gas the car won't be pushing me back in my seat anymore until I put my foot back on the accelerator. I haven't been going past second gear and mainly stay in first. I've also noticed that there is a hole in what I think is the bell housing almost directly behind the oild pan. From the position of the starter I'm asuming that the hole is there to inspect the flywheel and clutch components. Could this be related? Even if it isn't, could someone tell me what it is(so I can figure out where to get a plug for it)?

the symptoms your describing sound much like any car? usually when i let off the gas i feel deceleration...

the hole on the bellhousing doesnt need to be covered... pretty sure it just for inspection of flywheel teeth.. may be wrong

not sure what you're asking. Most - okay, all - cars don't accelerate unless you have your foot on the accelerator.

Thanks. I just wasn't sure if I should be worried.
To Manntis: In the RX7 it's much more noticable than my current daily driver.

That should be the only time that you feel your body pushed into the seat, under acceleration, not when letting off the gas. That or Newton is wrong

The deceleration was just so sudden it felt like it was being forcefully halted as opposed to gently slowing down.

Maybe because you are driving around in first gear

Let me guess, you DD is an automatic. There is a noticable difference between the 2 trannys.

Automatics hold speed longer than manuals. It's a function of the tranny, not the rotary engine.

put your dd in low gear and you'll get the same effect. OD does not usually an engine braking band or OWC
