Elerctrical Problem

I noticed a weird problem in my car, 1980 S1, when indicating occassionally the low coolant light come on, and twice now i have indicated, the low coolant light has flashed and then i have lost power to all my gauges and my indicators. I found that by giving the fuse gox a good thump (very technical and yes i did check the fuses before doing this), it fixes it and get power back to gauges & indicators. I am guessing it maybe becoming earthed somewhere between the indicator switch and the fuse box, but cant figure out why indicating causes it and thumping the fuse box fixes it. Any ideas?? I am guessing it will be a bit of fun to find the problem, will do it on my next day off probably.

a wire on the backside of the box may have come loose or the fuse isn't making a good connection. thats all i have.

yeah i thought of that too but how the heck would indicating trigger it.......it only ever happens then...maybe when indicating it pulls the wire at the bottom of the box enough to cause it.

if it was just the lights I would say the check relay has gone bad but also the gauges. Sounds like time to get the old multimeter out and track it down.

peace
