electrical woes...

so earlier this week i was out driving my 7, and my fuel pump fuse blew. I replaced it with a 10 amp, and it worked fine, then today i started my car and it blew the fuse again. threw in 2 15 amp fuses, first one forgot to kill the ignition before i put it in and it blew, the second one blew with a big flash of light when I turned the key to the on position. I threw in a 30 amp to see if that would work, and sure enough, after about 15 seconds, that one blew too. Tomorrow i'm going to tear into my electrical system (which is a nitemare) and see if I can track down the problem. Has anyone on here had problems with their Ignition switch arcing and causing blown fuel pump fuses? I don't have access to a lift near my house, closest one is an hour drive, and without an interior, insurance, or valid tags i'm SOL on this being an easy fix. any help would be apprieciated (sp?) on where to start looking for shorts.

Have you disconnected the actual fuel pump from the circut and then put a correct sized fuse in to see if it still blows? You see that would tell you if some mysterious electrical system Gremlin is actually the problem, or the less obvious, that your fuel pump is blowing the fuel pump fuse.

That would be the first step, finding the short, not replacing the switch that powers a shorted circuit.

sure enough, clipped the positive lead at the fuel pump, and no more blown fuses. well, i guess this gives me time to do body work and track down parts while i wait to get a new fuel pump.
