electrical problems, i need help.

car: 1984 gs.
engine: 12a

everytime i go above 4,000 rpm my wipers turn on. If it's raining and my wipers are already on, they go faster. To avoid my wipers from turning on when not needed, I drive with my lights on. If i have my lights on and go into high rpm, my lights will get brighter. This all started happening after a blown module was replaced. The car is also not getting enough spark.

we thought of it as a ground issue, but all the wiring is ok.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

First off, welcome to the Forum!

Second, I'll make a stab at your lights getting brighter. That sounds like an alternator problem. Might want to upgrade to a higher amperage one (check the Archives for help on that). Our stock alternators are wimpy.

As for why you're wipers are turning on, that to me sounds like a wiring issue. Your 7 not getting enough spark, how do you know?

I'd replace (more like upgrade) your alternator. That should cure some problems. Check the wiring diagrams in the FSM.

As per your spark, are your spark plugs, wires, and coils new or old? Might want to first start at replacing your coils.

Hope this helps.

Check/clean the grounding point on the left strut tower. The negative battery cable connects to the body at this point before continuing to the engine block/starter bolt. Be sure to check/clean the battery terminals also.

The WW work like most of the accs. on 1st gens. 12V is supplied to the motor whenever the car is turned on. The ground wires are switched. If there is a break in one of the two (one for high and one for low speed) ground/switch wires and it was grounded to the body, the wipers would turn on.

ok, i'll try this. thanks for the help.

the battery is an optima red top.
the spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor were replace about 2 months ago.

i think im not getting enough spark because :
i replaced the spark plugs about 2 weeks ago again because the car would not stay on for more than a minute. when we took the spark plugs out, they were black. and my car is running richer.

I think the issue is probably

Running rich -> contaminating plugs -> weakening spark,

rather than

Weak spark -> contaminating plugs -> running rich
