Electrical Problemo!

Well, my 84 Auto GSL is back on the road finally. Runs like a champ. New engine, perfectly tuned carb, and 4 new tires.

Now, it's time for inspection. UH OH!

Here's the situation.

1. Horn doesn't work. Press it, no sound.
2. Clock doesn't work. It lights up when it's supposed to, and doesn't when it shouldn't. But I'll be damned if it doesn't show a time.
3. Radio doesn't output. It finds channels, it scans, changes, memo's, etc, but no sound.
4. Over head light doesn't work.

I've checked fuses, and beat my head against this thing.. can't figure it out. It all happened when I was trying to pry the overhead light bulb outta the socket with a screw driver (needless to say it was dark when I did it).

Any recommendations?

Cody

if the clips that hold the bulb in a broke you have to take out the hole assembly and fix it

well i touched the two leads together with a pair of metal pliers, and that didn't give me anything. I can't even get the radio to fuzz, or crack or anything. Hmmm

OK, got tired of looking at the horizon and I checked it out tonight... I found something that's brown and has 3 sets of what look to be fabric wrapped wires looping out the back end.

It said something about a "main reactor". Is that the fusable links? if not... then what is it... and how do i check?

Disconnect the battery and unplug the fusible links one by one and squeeze the fabric covered areas softly. If your problem is link related, then two will be good and one will be bad. The two good ones will feel 'normal,' and the bad one will feel 'weird.' What's normal and what's weird? Well, just pay attention to how many feel a certain way =P

Also yes, this is kind of a lame way to check the links. The burnt out ones just feel all broken and crumbly when they're burnt out, so it's pretty easy to tell. If you have a test light, you might as well use that to check for continuity instead.
