electrical prob

I went to start my car earlier and all the lights, etc came on until i went to hit the starter. Then everything went dead. No electricity to anything. This happened once before and i just replaced a wire in the fusible link. I suspect it may be the fusible link this time but the strange thing is that my stereo went dead too. My stereo is hard wired to the car battery. There Is a wire run directly to the positive teminal of the battery from the stereo. It has an extra ground too. The stereo should have gotten power but it was dead too. I checked the battery and it is fine. I messed with the battery terminals and fusible link and it started and got me home. Whats wrong? Could it still be the fusible link?

Change the 15year old battery cables. And throw in an extra ground wire.

Are you sure the battery is ok...You might want to load test it.

Yeah if the battery is fine, and you wiggle the cables and it worked. Replace the cables

Oh and if you got a wire ran to the battery you better fuse it at the battery. No one wants to see a pretty 7 on fire

do you have aftermerket clamps on your cables? i had this problem because my painted clamps weren't connecting properly. had to take a flathead and shave the paint off on all the conecting points.

I thought it was the fusible links at first, but now Im not sure. I have two extra groung straps so I it probably isnt the ground. Could the fusible link cause this problem?

Battery connections. Maybe corrsion where the cable meets the clamp. Try a little baking soda and water to clean them up.
