Electric fan wiring?

I am going to wire my fan so it is on when the ingition is on. So where is the best place to tap into the harness. BTW I want it like this for offroad use. It won't see the road much.

I was told that you could get a electric fan from the bone yard and wire it up they wasy your saying.. something about getting a tester and find a lead thats off normaly and on when you trun the key. Or something about wireing the fan directly to the fuze box. Thats all I remember. Try doing a search under electric fan or something to that effect. I haven't done it.. yet. I have my fan waiting for me in the garage.

I did a search and got a link to a guy who was anti elec. fan. I have no choice in my fan. And he or she gave only a few options that I don't want to do. The big reason is the slow speeds and high RPM's.

Find something that has power only while the ignition is on, tap off of that and feed it into the relay... run a high current wire with 12v from the battery to the relay then to the fan.

What are you using to trigger the fan? If you have an ECU like megasquirt or haltech you can have the computer trigger it on and off instead of using one of those POS thermostats that come with many aftermarket fans.

Yeah, those are aftermarket ecu's.

I just wired mine up the right way last night. I got an adjustable thermostat (one of those cheap pc of *****) from autozone for like 18.00 (Imperial automotive products part # 226203).

I ran power from the trailing coil's hot wire, which is only on with the ignition. This is definitely the simple way to do it. I'm sure there are better, more professional ways to get this done, but I was in a hurry and sick of trying to remember to turn the damn thing on with a switch.

Good luck!

As mentioned, the ignition coil is a good spot to get the power for it from.

Thanks guys. I got a relay and a switch. Wired it up to the trailing and works great. Thanks for all the advice.
