Electric fan w/ short radiator

Anyone running a e-fan with a short 3 core radiator installed? What brand e-fan did you use?

A 16" fan is on my short radiator. I don't know the brand, but its one of those typical parts store deals. 16" is too large for the core.

If you're running the short rad, you probably have an oil cooler beneath it. The 16" fan should fit just about right if you mount it so it's drawing through the rad and the oil cooler. I think you'll want to do it this way because your front swaybar will block you from mounting a 16" fan pusher style in the front.

As for brand -- I've been considering a straight blade SPAL. They seem to move a lot of air with low current draw and have a good reputation for reliability. The straight blades seem to move more air, but create more noise, which explains why most OEM units use curved blades.

How about a 14" slim profile SPAL attached somehow to the original fan shroud?

elwood's right. The short radiator is about 12" tall so the 4" that go below the radiator core will pull air through the oil cooler if you retain the factory fan shroud. With the Derale 1900 cfm model, only minor trimming near the bottom was necessary to get the fan shroud to bolt on over the electric fan...the gap between the fan electric motor and the water pump pulley is really close, but still not a problem. It's always better to mount an electric fan pulling air through a core then to push it...

1. Bigger is better. You may not need a 16" fan, but for the cost difference I'd rather be safe than sorry.

2. Fitting a fan to the original shroud can be done (I saw a picture of one somewhere), but it's generally easier to mount it to directly to the radiator.

3. Mounting directly to the radiator will give you more room to fit stuff -- like a 20B

I havent been around but I remember this question. here's my FB with Fiero Fan. But if you have the A/C pulley, it may not work as i barely got a clearance between the fan motor and the RB main pulley

Also, for those with tall radiator who hasnt converted, here's a pix.

wackyracer: Nice engine bay. I routed a breather into my oil fill cap, too.

Where'd you get the braided SS clutch line? My OEM one just went bad.

the engine bay is the short radiator. OK, since I have an extra oil cooler and short radiator, I will take pics of that too this weekend.

the last 2 pics are the tall radiator...check the radiator outlet.
