Talking Edelbrock 500cfm finally installed today!

Just finished installing my new Edelbrock 500cfm carb today and I'm in LOVE! The car fired right up on the 1st try. Absolutely fantastic. By the way I didnt know Weber and Edelbrock are the same company. Anyway I didnt get to drive it yet due to throttle cable. I'll be post on that once its done.

where did you hear weber and edelbrock are the same company?? edelbrock is american, and webers were originally italian, then spanish, and now on strike.

edit:either way, congrats!

Sweet! More information on the setup. Did you modify it in any way?

Cheers

No Mods done. This thing is beautiful. lol...smooth Idle, but again I havnt had a chance to actually drive it yet. I am heading to NYC for a bachleor party so I wont be able to do anything for now. I'll post pics of the set up ASAP. By the way its an Edelbrock performer series with a Racing Beat intake manifold and a aluminum spacer. I'm more impressed with this set up than I was with my old newly bought RB modified Holley! RB cost WAY more too!

Excellent choice, Latin270! Wish I had a 500 instead of my 600... P.M. me if you need advice on jetting/needles (it's really easy to do). Just don't expect a quick reply as I'm not on the web too often these days!!

As far as throttle linkage goes, just sandwich the stock cable ball between two plates of aluminum and use a bolt, sleeve and a couple of washers to connect to the Edel's throttle linkage, add another return spring or two and that's it. It's really no problem.

i tried a edelbrock 600 on my 13b. it fired up right away but i couldnt get it to fit right, because the choke was in the way. i tried a 1" spacer and then ended up with some vacuum leaks and winter was coming, so i got lazy and put the Holley back on.

as for the linkage you can steal the little spacer sandwich thing off a niki or holley and add it on, atleast thats what i did.

i did drive a bit with the edelbrock 600 even though i had vacuum leaks (coming from spacer, coouldnt find bolts proper to hold it tight because of threads on RB intake manifold) anyways. it worked great, can't wait to try mine again!

kudo's on trying a 500, too, the 600 is just too big for any stock port, even 13b, IMO. however i've heard they are very similar the 500 still sounds more fitting. g'luck with it man!

I got the edelbrock Performer 600 on my 6-port 13B. It mabey could have been smaller, but I figured the extra flow from the 5th and 6th ports would warrent a slightly larger carb. Either way the car starts up easier than my 02 alero does. Just turn the key and before it even rotates the engine once its running.

Yes, this thread is worthless without pics, lol. If you could post a video clip too, that would be great.

I used two steel things to attatch the cable to the Edlebrock 600 on my bro's RX-4 with 5" Camden. The holes were 1" apart if I recall correctly. I fabbed a cable holder out of an air pump bracket and one of the AC condensor brackets most of us have laying around. I also added an angled piece of angle iron to correct the slight angle of the throttle cable to keep it pointing straight at the linkage on the carb. This prevents the cable from rubbing internally and wearing out prematurely.

No but I can find the original picture and show that part at full size. It's the best I can do because the car isn't here.

2 questions, where is the upper butterfly for the secondaries and are you running that triangle filter from the pic?

No upper butterfly. It looks like the secondary butterfly sits beneath the ventri or at least thats what I was told, remember I'm not a carb guru. I just love this carb...lol. As far as the air filter set up, I'm not sure what direction to go although the set up in the pic above sure looks good.

You might want to use a better hose clamp so as to avoid a disastorous gas fire. Any good autostore will have FI fuel line clamps that wrap a plain un-serrated strap of steel around the hose under the serrated turn. The serrations can eventually cut thru the hose.

Is the air inlet close to the hood?

Those triangle filters have poor ari flow, poor filtering capabilities and fire hazards. Go with a standard drop base and a 14" air cleaner, much better.

If you look closely in the vid you can see the secondary upper butterflies. But I agree with what was said about the triangle filter. It just doesn't flow too nicely and is a major fire hazard with its foam element. Same goes for carb hats on a non turbo car. Get either a 10" without the drop base or a 14" with drop base. With my setup I can use the 10", but just barely. The Jaytech intake I'm using is much taller than a RB or modded stocker and the 10" sits about 3" above the carb and less than 1/2" away from the hood when closed.

Oh yeah, the fact that your car started right up without the choke and runs so well when cold is a sign that its running much too rich. On my 6 port 13B I have my idle mixture screws out about a turn and a half. I think that would be a good place for you to start, and then for jets I currently have the originals in it and its running way rich. I gotta downsize the secondaries for sure, mabey just a metering rod change for the primaries. I would suggest you get a tuning kit for the carb if you haven't already, then start with downsizing your jets one step.
