Best places to buy cars are the southern dry/warm states. My car has Zero rust. Anyways, I feel for both of you. It is a loose loose corner of the matrix - the worst outcome.

Ever think he did not know????

None of you get it. So what is the point.

We get it. Webs right, its a lose/lose situation. If the rust is that bad, find a better chassis thats non running and swap in the good parts from the car you bought. Many times you can find non running 1st gens for nothing, you just gotta look around some. Post some pics of the cancer, maybe we can help you with suggestions on fixing it.

doesn't have a frame? (post some pics if you could)

There are not many cool cars that can be bought running for $800, unless you think an 86 Chevy Nova is a cool car.

Now if you had payed $3000 then I would agree that he shafted you and should return some money, As is he lost $500 on the deal and was loosing $200 before giving you money back.

Why dont we drop this and you show us some pics of your shiney new exeaust and undercoat. How about pics of your other cars?

PS the RX-7 does not have a Frame.

maybe in the conventional sense of a 1975 cadilac or pontiac grand prix, but it does have a unibody construction which is considered the frame. this makes it even more important than a "normal frame" i personally could deal with a little rust (even though I would rather rebuild a chevrolet camaro than work on car cancer)(oh and I despise chevy's) but when it comes to rust on a unibody, thats one area I refuse to touch. here where I live in japan there are plenty of talented body workers who will drill out the spot welds pry the thing apart and weld togethor a new unibody but it really hurts the savings account for a truly stellar fresh from the factory type job (I know, we all know this! ) and thats the point I am getting to. having not seen the vehicle I can't pronounce a verdict, but if it has frame rot (scuse me Unibody Rot) then its got more problems than "most prudent people would be willing to deal with"

I had posted earlier that (under an impression of moderate rust) that I would be interested for 800 dollars and would even toss in more for any parts she had spent money on, however for me moderate rust does not include the unibody.

My Opinion: and mine only, if it has frame rot, than its misrepresented whether intentionally or not. if it doesn't have frame rot than he was perfectly honest in his assesment.

Post pictures this will tell the tale one way or the other. (this is not meant to incite another flame war) Its just in the interests of propriety. :)

At first glance....Everything looks ok.....

"The vehicle has some moderate rust above the rear passenger side fender, typical Ohio car which could be easily repaired then painted."

Caveat emptor, especially on Ebay

RRTEC 11-01-04 01:36 PM

What did you buy the car for? If you bought it to turn into a "show car/ head turner" then I feel this situation is 100% your fault, No-one in thier right mind buys a car with rust to "RESTORE" It will make a great daily driver/ run around. For $800 I would have bought it.. I payed $700 for a car here in TN with rust in the rear bins, blown motor, 218k on it needed everything! you got a great deal on a running car regardless of the body/frame...

John64 11-01-04 02:38 PM

Not to be mean, but you can't say you did not see that rust! For $800 you got what ou paid for. Enough said!

robtherx7nut 11-01-04 02:55 PM

You can not see the rust a first look....only after having it on the rack. All I know if I was selling this car I would explained more about the rust. That is the way I am....I do not have to answer for the behavor of others. I want to say that I am honest in my dealings. I like to state the facts about things I sell. So I like to be treated the same.

Kentetsu 11-01-04 03:21 PM

Hmmm, it doesn't seem that rust on the rocker panels would be impossible to see without putting the car on a lift. The rust is clearly visible even in the pics that weren't taken from a lower angle. As far as the rest of the rust, at least in Michigan you would expect to find that kind of stuff on an $800.00 sports car.

Sorry, but if there was that much rust visible on the rocker panels then you probably should have realized that there would be some underneath the car too. Good luck with it, I hope you take good care of the car and get her fixed up. :)

robtherx7nut 11-01-04 04:26 PM

Well, Thanks....I guess you all just think I am dumb....I did not know. In the south you do not have to worry about all this rust. Down here you can buy rust free vehicles cheaper
that run. I know of 1985 rx7 gslse right now I can buy for 250.00 that runs. I really thought this car was going to be in better shape. Down the street a guy sold a 1983
gs 300.00.

web777 11-01-04 04:32 PM

Don't worry. I did the same thing too. I bought a car that came from Canada and it was a rust bucket. I'm from SoCal and we never have to worry about rust here.

robtherx7nut 11-01-04 04:33 PM

So what did you do?

robtherx7nut 11-01-04 04:34 PM

Do you know if the body can come off? there a some screws under the body with plastic
on them. What are they for?

Lee Lyons 11-01-04 04:34 PM

Exactly, how can she prove that its all rusted and falling to shit. The only way that, that would happen is if she abused the car and is looking for any reason to get her money back. Tell her the condition you sold her the car and if you could provide some evidence colaborating your story then stick it to her and tell her to back off!

robtherx7nut 11-01-04 04:46 PM

It use to be that honesty was the best policy! This is why we have to lock the doors at night. People think it is ok to not be straight to the point and tell it like it is. Look
at the add again. The car was clearly Represented!

While standing up and looking down, that rust is hard to see. I can see how you would have missed it.
