Easy question about Taurus E-Fan mounting

Okay, I've done this fan swap twice before in the past on other cars, so I'm rather familiar with the process. Drill some holes, zip tie it together, wire it up with a thermostat, blah, blah, blah. We've all been thru the process at some point or another. However, I feel like the Taurus fan matched up to the radiator better on my previous projects? This is on the tall 1985 style radiator (a GS model in this case). Maybe it's just been so long since I last did one that I forgot how they matched up?

You guys that have done the Taurus fan swap also, did you have this little gap at the bottom of the fan where it isn't tall enough to match the radiator? I don't remember this gap being there on my other projects. It matches up great on the top, and on the sides, but then the bottom of the fan is just laying against the fins of the radiator. I know that in the past I have always had to trim the bottom right corner of the fan shroud off to allow room for the hose connections. The width is a perfect match like always, but the height is about 1/2" off. It's still going to work just fine once I get it mounted, I just don't remember it being like this before. I thought about running a small piece of flat steel across the bottom of the fan to keep it from rubbing against the radiator. It's an easy fix I guess, just unexpected.

This is a replacement radiator that the previous owner bought and installed, so maybe that is the cause? Perhaps it is a slightly different overall height than the stock rad? Is anyone else's tall radiator and Taurus E-Fan combo like this?

Thanks,
Jamie

Mine is in an 83 with the tall rad and that was how it lined up for me, no issues yet and cools great.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't remember my old 1985 GS or my 1983 GS fitting like this. Apparently it has just been so long that I forgot. Can anyone else confirm their fitment for me?

Thanks,
Jamie

It looks fine and that is exactly how I would install it EXCEPT I will slightly trim the area around the lower outlet to clear the hoses.

Do you need clearance for both hoses, or just the small one? I can't remember, and I don't have a radiator hose handy to test with. It looks like the lower radiator hose might clear okay, and I just need to cut around the heater hose? Or am I wrong, and need to cut both?

I believe you need apprx 1" clearance between the shround and outlet to compensate for hose outside diameter. Just my observation, my experience is with fiero fan

Nah, I have an '85 GSL and that Taurus fan, and you don't need to trim anything off. It clears the lower radiator hose just fine.

Yeah, I know that they have problems with the 13B. I have never had a problem with fan depth on a 12A though. I always trim the lower corner of the fan to clear the heater hose connection though.

You will have lower radiator hose issues.

Before you trim the shroud try heating it and pushing on it with a piece of pipe, this is how i got my clearance, different series rx7 but same principle
