Yes, well and good. Alls I'm sayin' is shroudless works fine on the hottest days in the worst of traffic. If someone was thinking making a shroud might be too hard/time consuming/expensive or didnt have room for one, I would say as long as your cooling system is clean and working and you have an adequate fan, then don't worry about it.

This thread has been immensely helpful in thinking things through on e-fans. People in the future will have plenty of education on how they want to set their cooling system up!

I believe I've decided to run shroud less with a puller spaced 3/4 inch off the radiator. It's more of a test I'll see how it works if its not enough I'll put the shroud on. If it gets hot at highway speeds with a shroud I'll make flaps. As long as I monitor it I should be fine. Currently there's still snow outside pretty sure if be fine without a fan right now.

no need to space it.
if anything use a rubber trim around the edge of the fan body such as "pinchweld" as we call it here in aus, not sure what you guys in the states call it.. you know,, the rubber trim that goes around car doors and sunroofs etc, or just split some fuel hose even. Again, shouldnt be necessary tjough if the fan is mounted securely and cant move or rub.

So a guy I know has a twin turbo mustang and he has an aftermarket cooling fan solution and it answers the question "to shroud or not to shroud". He has little rubber flaps in the areas where the fan is not. The flaps open at speed (obviously) and close when not moving. So you get airflow when you need it and vacuum created by the fans at rest.

Make sure its airtight against the radiator.
no need to space it.
