Talking Dynoed My Car Today

as the title says, i put my car on the dyno today.

I made: 157.68 HP @ 8600-8900 rpm
105.83 FT-LBS @ 5600-6600 rpm

It was on a Dynojet. At a shop that specializes in V8s

The best part about it was when the guy said "so since its a small little rotary i should spin it all the way to like 7500 right?" I laughed and said " your tach on the dyno goes at least to ten right? Cause thats as low as I'll go otherwise its not even worth it." I watched everybody's jaw hit the ground in the room we were in.

LOL sorry bro, got to force myself to learn, thanks for the help though. Kind of funny right? I can tune about 6 engine management systems using gauges and a laptop on an open highway, with the professional shops only making about 10-15 horsepower on me, tune my carb using only an EGT guage and nothing else, but I cant put up a link on the Fcukng internet.

I took out the little spring and ball in the oil jets on the eccentric shaft so it gets full oil full time, and I have carbon apex seals with the springs that go with them. otherwise it was just a junkyard motor that i had the housings lapped, then i ported them and put it back together in my garage

If you want to keep running above 8k, you will need to do the mods on your next engine, i.e., hardened stationary gears, 3 window bearings and clearenced rotors. If you haven't done that, keep it under 8k. Nice #s btw.

Carbon seals or not,E-shaft whip is going to trash the engine if you keep exceeding 8-9Krpm.
Thats why they make lightened/clearanced rotors, hardened gears and better bearings.....

Just a heads up.

My little speech, when old timers say that rotaries have no redline........

"People think rotaries have no redline because back in the 70's V-8's were revving to 4-5K rpms and most motorcycles only revved to 7-8K rpms!!!"

Nowadays.....after much refinement, modern cars and bikes can double those speeds, but the little rotary has fundamentally changed very little in 30 years.

Very nice. My large streeport 12a engine running a Weber DCO sp, did only slighly better than that. The guys are right, shifting between 8,000-8,600 or so is what I do with all the proper mods. You can run it up past 10k once in a while but engine life suffers accordingly.

Whoever did your carb/manifold did a great job.

Thats one VERY important thing that i forgot to say that i did put in, hardened stationary gears is something that i wont ever put a motor together without, i've never personally seen the stoch ones break, but hearing stories from my dad of the non-hardened gears breaking a tooth and having rotors crash into the housings scared me into always doing that, even though it took longer to save up for them, would rather hold off on driving my car a little longer to make sure that i can KEEP driving it after i put it together, especially knowing that i drive like an *** cause its so much fun. to be honest though, i dont know that i have three window bearings or not, i'll have to check my receipts for this motor, I know I put them in my motor that I built for my ITA car. no clearenced or lightweight rotors for sure though, never had any problems so far with either car but i was thinking of getting the mazda comp rotors for the motor i put together for a friend running E Prod.

cpa7man- Thanks, i did the carb and manifold myself. Ported both in my garage. Jetted it on this expressway by my house at like 1 AM. Not the smartest way to do it but i'm still young and stupid so thats what i did. When i finish charging my digital camera i will post a pic of my dyno sheet, with HP,TQ and A/F on it.

It is definitely good numbers for a mild street port. I am with everyone else though, that is way too high of an rpm to have taken it to. There really is no need for you to take it that high ever (unless you are peripheral ported). Regardless though, that is some good numbers put down. Congratulations.

how did you only run a 14.8? i keep seeing all these 1/4 mile numbers people have with a SP 12a and mods. about a year ago on a stock port 12a i ran a 15.3. i know its a half second difference, but i hope a SP would make more than a half second difference.

Steve84GS TII- Yep three window bearings also

DriveFast7- Stock chocks in all four barrels

Hyper4mance2K-lol nope straight up 12a SP that i definately had room to go bigger on the intake and way more on the exhaust

Normality Glitch- I have all the right stuff to go that high, the motor makes power that high, so im F'ing going that high! LOL Why the hell would i short shift it? If your going to do something half-assed, dont do it at all, driving it building it or breaking it, make it count no matter what!

aws140- The car has like a 14.6 in it, if you read the thread about those passes it was the first time i was ever at the track and on that pass i missed 3rd, and got out of the hole like an old lady on a cellphone on sunday looking for her false teeth in the other seat.
